PHALKE TO KANNADIGA VK MURTHY

A Kannadiga by birth VK Murthy flourished in Hindi cinema gets the prestigious Dada Saheb Phalke Award for 2008 for his all time contribution in cinematography. After Dr Rajakumar VK Murthy is the second Kannadiga getting this award but of course for recognition to Hindi cinema!

‘Kagaz Ke Phool’ is the first cinemascope film VK Murthy wielded the camera in the black and white days. His association with Gurudut the Hindi film maker, director and actor was super hit. VK Murthy the outstanding cameraman has worked for Kannada film ‘Hoovu Hanu’ directed by SV Rajendra Singh Babu. VK Murthy had also acted in this Kannada film too. A Mysorean by birth making heights in success in Mumbai settled down in Bangalore eight years ago. He is living in Shankarapuram, Bangalore. He was the first batch student of Sri Jayachamarajendra Polytechnic.

The unsung hero VK Murthy aged 80 years who lived his life through the lenses has been staying in Bangalore moving from Mumbai from last two years. Among many awards the IIFA lifetime achievement award was prestigious one.
